The Leaning Tower

The Tower of Pisa is the most famous leaning tower of the world, a universal famous monument. Begun in 1173, the tower, entirely built in marble, began to bent over before the completion of the third plan (1274), because of the muddy and sandy ground on which the foundations, only three meters deep, are planted. Nevertheless, the construction continued until the completion in the 1350, when the bell cell was completed and the seven bells were placed, because the tower was built to be the bell tower of the cathedral. Six of the eight plans are encircled by a loggia with round arches, that repeat the pattern on the façade of the cathedral. The tower is approximately 58 meters high; since its construction the gradient is increased but in the course of the centuries there were also long periods of stability or quite of reduction of the gradient. In 1992 the shift from the top of the axis to the base has been estimated in approximately 5,20 meters. We don't know who were the architects who worked at the tower.
